Owning a pet is a goal for many people at some point in their lives. Pets offer companionship and love to their owners, and make great additions to most families.
While there are many avenues of pet ownership, animal rights activist Jenny Brown is here to give her thoughts as to why you should consider rescuing your next pet.
#1. You Save a Life
When you choose to rescue an animal from a shelter, you save that animal from potential euthanization. Unfortunately, there are more stray animals in the US than shelters can take in, which puts pressure onto shelters to try and re-home animals quickly to avoid overcrowding and euthanization.
Plus, shelter pets usually have their required vaccinations and come spayed or neutered, which makes pet ownership less expensive for adoptive parents! Animal shelters usually have less expensive adoption fees than those from pet stores or breeders, too.
#2. You Support Animal RIghts
By adopting a pet from a shelter, you are actively fighting against abusive puppy mill practices and are supporting ethical adoption practices.
The animal shelter staff can provide you resources on ways to stay involved in the animal rights movement and how to spread awareness about adopting shelter or rescue animals.
